Why is algae or moss growing on my roof?

Algae and moss favour damp, shaded areas where water dries slowly, such as valleys, overlaps and south-facing sections. Correct drainage or water-retention problems where possible, remove growth safely, treat the surface with an appropriate biocidal cleaner and allow it to dry before recoating.
