Why does paint turn yellow-brown or become water-sensitive on new plaster?

Fresh or damp plaster can be strongly alkaline. Alkali and moisture can attack incompatible coating components, causing patchiness, staining, softening or blistering. Let the plaster cure and dry, correct moisture problems and use an alkali-resistant primer before recoating.
