Why does paint crack like dried mud?

Mud cracking can occur when a water-based coating is applied too heavily, dries incorrectly or fails to form a proper film, including under temperatures below the coating's minimum film-forming conditions. Remove cracked material and recoat under suitable conditions at the correct film build.
