Why does exterior paint fade?

Fading is a loss or change of colour during exposure, most often strongest on areas receiving direct sunlight. UV-sensitive pigments can lose colour even when the paint film itself remains intact. Exterior colour selection and the quality of the coating both affect colour retention.
