Why are rust spots appearing over nail heads?

Nail-head staining occurs when unprotected or corroding steel fasteners rust and the corrosion products bleed through the paint. Remove loose rust, clean the fastener, spot-prime it with a suitable anti-corrosive primer and then restore the coating system.
