Underfilm corrosion is rust that spreads beneath an apparently intact coating, often starting at a scratch, edge, pinhole, fastener or damaged area. Moisture and salts enter at the defect and corrosion creeps sideways under the paint. Remove coating back to sound, clean and prepare the steel properly, then rebuild the anti-corrosive coating system.
