What causes lap marks on a painted wall?

Lap marks are darker or uneven bands where one section of paint has partly dried before the next section overlaps it. They are more likely in hot, dry or windy conditions or when the painter does not maintain a wet edge. Work in manageable sections, keep a wet edge and avoid overworking paint that has started to set.
