What causes fish eyes or surface breaks in paint?

Fish eyes are small areas where wet paint pulls away instead of wetting the surface. Oil, silicone, wax, grease or incompatible residues are common causes. Stop coating, identify and remove the contamination thoroughly, then test adhesion and wetting before recoating.
