How do I waterproof a leaking roof?

First locate the source of the leak and repair loose fasteners, open joints, cracks or failed flashings. Clean and prepare the roof, treat rust or friable areas as required, and use the specified waterproofing coating with membrane reinforcement at joints and cracks where the system calls for it. A coating should not be used to hide structural defects.
