How do I repaint roof tiles when the old paint is in poor condition?

Remove as much loose, peeling and unsound coating as practical, clean the roof thoroughly and allow it to dry. Repair damaged areas and stabilise any friable tile surface with the specified primer or bonding liquid. Do not coat over weak old paint, because the new system will only be as strong as the layer underneath it.
