How do I prepare a previously painted galvanised roof before repainting?

Wash and degrease the roof, remove dirt and contamination, and allow it to dry. Scrape or abrade away loose and flaking coating, remove rust back to a sound surface and spot-prime exposed metal. If the old coating is badly deteriorated, more extensive removal and full priming may be necessary before the new roof coating is applied.
